In this issue of Chevy Classics, we are paying tribute to the 1967 Corvette, which celebrated its Silver Anniversary year in 1992. The Bloomington Gold Silver Salute also celebrated the 1967 Corvette in 1992 and it was the last year of Bloomington Gold being held in Bloomington, Illinois.  In this article, we will reflect back on the past and we hope to conjure up some images from this very special year.

In 1967, Chevrolet Motor Division made some drastic changes to make the model year be remembered for all time.  The Camaro model line was introduced along with the new 350 engine as a Camaro power plant.  Later in the year, a man named Vince Piggins wanted to go racing, so the Z/28 Camaro platform was built.  It was based on combining the old 283 crank and the 327 2 bolt block to create a winner right out of the gate.   And who could ever forget the big block Biscaynes and Impalas?  The 1967 Super Sport Impala with its unforgettable hood looks fast just sitting still in a parking lot.  It was a year in which it seemed "John Q. Public" decided to go to Chevrolet, order up raw horsepower with lots of torque on the side, and a large glass of water to make their asphalt dinners complete.

It was also a year when a man named Zora-Argus Duntov had an incredible dream.  He believed that it took more cubic inches and raw power than anyone else to make the Corvette a winner.  He was right! It was with these thoughts in mind that the L-88 was conceived and finally unveiled in 1967.

The 1967 model year was the last of the "mid-years" design with the 1967 the least adorned from the exterior. The hood script emblems and fender flags were removed and new functional fender vents with five angled slots were added to the body. The knock-off wheel was changed to a bolt-on design with a clip-on center cap to conceal the lug nuts.  Rally wheels now came as standard equipment. Also the interior was modified in that the seat design was changed and the parking brake was moved to between the bucket seats.

Due to the fact that this was such a special year for the Corvette, we decided to give you a complete breakdown of all Corvette powertrains for the 1967 model year.  Thanks Chevrolet for a really great year.
