If this were to rust or come undone, it is possible that your Malibu's hood could get loose and open while driving, while also creating an annoying rattling sound. This is a safety hazard, as well as chance of looking silly on the road. Eckler's Chevelle & Malibu offers a nice steel reproduction of the upper hood safety latch which bolts to the bottom of the Camaro hood.
