This is a new GM part, constructed from durable aluminum and a phonolic pulley. There are advantages to be found, it is much cheaper to remove the compressor and instal this bypass pulley than replacing the compressor. Performance advantages also, from the lose of 45 pounds off the front end, to better weight transfer and increased traction. There are no additional cost, you can reuse your original serpentine belt.
