Your Classic Car Parts Headquarters
Some eighteen years ago Kevin DeVries did a series of technical articles in Late Great Chevys monthly on detailing your 1958-64 full-size Chevrolet. Since that time many new detailing decals have been reproduced. The merger of Late Great Chevys and Eckler's industries all new numbers. This along with the many years since this information first appeared has led us to feel that it's time to once again share this information.
Nothing makes a fully restored Chevy stand out more than to look under the hood or into the trunk and see the attention to detailing that decals can give your Chevy. The information in this and following tech articles will be most beneficial to the Chevy owner who is restoring his or her Chevy to factory specification. These articles and illustrations will only address the most basic and most asked-about detailing decals. This month we will look at detailing 1961-64 Chevys.
We can't begin to show all the detailing decals currently carried by Eckler's Late Great Chevy line. To see this full selection, be sure to visit us at www.LateGreatChevy.com.
Detailing items come basically in three different forms - first is the crack and type of decal where you peel off the back of the decal and then apply the decal to the car - the second type of detailing item is the bolt, rivet, or wire-on item - and the third type is the submerge in warm water, then slide decal off type. These are the same type of decals you used when building model cars as a youth. Please note that these tech articles will not go into great details as to how many inches from a specific location the decal or sticker should go on your Chevy. It will only give the area where the sticker or decal is. When GM installed these items on a Chevy, they didn't use exact angles or measure so many inches from this corner or end when applying these items. We will leave that detail up to your discretion. As with any type of decal application, cleaning and preparing of the area is a must!
