While many may not be aware, the sending unit of your 1969 or 1970 Chevelle’s gas tank is located in the fuel tank, where a float made of foam is connected to a thin metal rod. The end of this rod is mounted to a resistor which indicated fuel level. In the sending unit, the fuel has to drop below a certain level before the float starts to drop, to indicate a low amount of fuel left in the car.
