This simple gas tank sending unit seal is the source of many gas tank leaks. The Chevy original dries out and cracks or shrinks, giving a poor seal at the tank and a leak results. Very often, 1955, 1956 or 1957 Chevy Bel Air, 150, 210, Nomad or Wagon owners misdiagnose this leak as a leaky tank. Fuel may leak out around the sending unit and run down and around the tank, making you think the leak is on the tank somewhere.
